VACD Students Present Exhibition on Skenderija at the International Sarajevo Book Fair
The Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design (VACD) study program at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) presented the exhibition titled “Skenderija – Part of the Historical Identity of the City of Sarajevo” at the International Sarajevo Book Fair.
The exhibition featured works created by VACD students under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Branko Vekić, MFA, and offered a meaningful artistic reflection on Skenderija as an important part of Sarajevo’s historical and cultural identity. Presented within the unique setting of the International Sarajevo Book Fair, the exhibition created a valuable space for connecting visual expression, cultural memory, and the urban heritage of the city.
The opening ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 14:00 in the foyer of the International Sarajevo Book Fair.
Through this exhibition, VACD students presented their creative interpretations of one of Sarajevo’s most recognizable landmarks, contributing to a broader reflection on the city’s identity, heritage, and collective memory.
By engaging with Skenderija as both an architectural and cultural symbol, the students’ works highlighted the lasting significance of this important Sarajevo landmark in the city’s historical narrative. The exhibition also demonstrated how artistic practice can serve as a powerful medium for preserving memory, encouraging dialogue, and inspiring renewed appreciation for spaces that shape the identity of a community.
