“Same Old Story”: A Multimedia Exhibition Challenging Prejudice Against the Roma Community
Students from the Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design (VACD) study program, as part of their Photography II course led by Aida Redžepagić, visited “Same Old Story,” a multimedia exhibition project featuring photographs, newspaper clippings, video materials, drawings, installations, and posters. Developed within the Furaj mir project, the exhibition addresses prejudice and discrimination against the Roma community, raising important questions about stereotypes, their historical roots, and their impact on everyday life.
By bringing together archival and contemporary materials, the exhibition critically examines the ways Roma people have been represented in the media and society, while also exploring how these narratives are passed down and sustained over time.
A special segment of the exhibition features photographs by the renowned Bosnian-Herzegovinian photographer Milomir Kovačević Strašni, whose documentation of life in Sarajevo adds a powerful documentary dimension to the overall display.
The exhibition was created by a talented team of young people from Sarajevo - Almir Agić, Nedžla Čolo, Ena Bečirević, Lamija Abazović, and Mak Filipović - under the mentorship of Ivana Roso.
As the team behind the project explains:
“The exhibition is an attempt to open space for dialogue, curiosity, and the courage to admit to ourselves that things are not always as we think. Peace and equality do not arise on their own; they emerge when we are willing to listen to one another.”
