Knowledge, Art & Inquiry: Dr. Damir Kahrić Inspires Students to Think Beyond Methodology (VACD Special)

On Monday, October 6, 2025, students of the Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design (VACD) MA cycle at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) had the privilege of attending a thought-provoking guest lecture titled “The Philosophy of Knowing: VACD’s Gateway to Research Mastery”, delivered by Dr. Damir Kahrić, lecturer at the English Language and Literature (ELIT) and English Language and Literature, Teaching (ELT) study programs.

The lecture was held as part of the ‘Research Methodology’ course and was organized by Assistant Professor Nejira Mulahmetović, MA, Vice-Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at FASS, and Acting Program Coordinator of Media and Communications (MAC).

Dr. Kahrić, IUS professor of literature and scientific methodology, is the author of 18 research papers published locally and internationally. His extensive academic and research experience enriched the lecture, offering VACD MA students fresh insight into the philosophical bases of knowledge and how they intersect with research in visual arts and communication. The lecture also focused upon key research paradigms: positivism, interpretivism, constructivism and critical theory, providing students with a foundational understanding of the diverse approaches to knowledge production and analysis.

The session was met with great enthusiasm. Students engaged in the discussion segment, providing constructive feedback, asking thoughtful questions and demonstrating a strong grasp of critical thinking. Their participation reflected both the relevance of the topic and the effectiveness of Dr. Kahrić’s engaging approach. The students were particularly praised for their openness to interdisciplinary ideas and their eagerness to explore the philosophical aspects of research.

This collaboration between FASS study programs highlighted the importance of academic interdepartmental rigor and affirmed IUS’s commitment to nurturing interdisciplinary dialogue and research excellence.

The Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design program extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Damir Kahrić for his inspiring contribution, as well as to Asst. Prof. Nejira Mulahmetović for her continued efforts in enhancing the academic experience of our students through such meaningful initiatives and cooperations.
