49 Posters, Three Years, One Cultural Story: Professor Branko Vekić Presents “Kulturni plakat” in Sarajevo
Associate Professor Branko Vekić from the Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design study program at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) presented his solo exhibition “Kulturni plakat” as part of the 10th International Festival Grad – Metamorphosis.
The exhibition opened on 31 August 2026 at the MAK Gallery of the Museum of Literature and Theatre Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and offers an overview of Vekić’s work in graphic design over the past three years.
Featuring 49 posters created between 2023 and 2026, the exhibition includes 33 final designs and 16 alternative versions, giving visitors insight not only into the completed works but also into the creative process, visual exploration and different design solutions considered during their development.
A Visual Record of Contemporary Cultural Life
The title Kulturni plakat reflects Vekić’s long-standing engagement with culture, particularly theatre and visual arts. The exhibited works include posters created for drama and ballet performances, opera productions, exhibitions, and various cultural events related to visual arts and cultural heritage.
Taken together, the works represent more than a collection of graphic design projects. They also offer a visual record of the ways in which contemporary cultural production in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been communicated to audiences over the past several years.
A particularly important role in his work is given to typography, which is not treated merely as a neutral carrier of information, but as an active element of composition and meaning. In this way, cultural references become a starting point for establishing visual communication between the work, its content and the audience.
At the opening, Vekić thanked everyone who contributed to the realization of the exhibition, with special appreciation to Ibrahim Spahić for his continued contribution to Sarajevo’s cultural life.
The exhibition “Kulturni plakat” remains open until 8 September 2026 at the MAK Gallery of the Museum of Literature and Theatre Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Through this exhibition, Associate Professor Branko Vekić once again demonstrates the important role of graphic design in shaping cultural memory, communicating artistic content and connecting institutions with their audiences.
